Oral thrush or oral candidiasis is caused by a pathogen called candida albicans. In cases of oral thrush this bacteria accumulates in the mouth and the lining of the mouth and this infection is most often characterized by creamy white lesions in the mouth and on the tongue. The symptoms of oral thrush range from extremely mild to debilitating. Severe symptoms of oral thrush can include pain, redness, and even an inability to swallow effectively. Some individuals also experience a loss of taste.
