Serrapeptase is an enzyme that destroys some types of proteins. Serrapeptase is a compound found naturally in the digestive systems of silkworms and it is often used for its anti-inflammatory benefits.

When you are injured or wounded, the body produces various structures to help heal the tissue that has been damaged. Wound healing begins with inflammation and often includes the production of fibrin to support the healing process. Once the tissue has healed, fibrin and other inflammatory compounds need to be removed from the site of injury. Proteolytic enzymes are responsible for this removal.
